photoblog image Marton Mere

Marton Mere

The sun actually shone all day yesterday, which lured me outside with the camera!

I took a wander around Marton Mere, which is a nature reserve on the fringes of Blackpool. I often wander around here, but seldom see any wildlife apart the ubiquitous ducks,  which seem to be aquatic pigeons!? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places...

Like the tones on this one - have you tweaked this?
Got a 1950s William Eggleston type feel to it.

I would have cropped that flotsam out at the bottom though - but thats a minor criticism of an otherwise great picture.
Dave Carrington: Thanks, Eddy. I did try a cropped version, but the tonal recession at the bottom of the shot was lost: that's the bit I like! I also tried cloning out the flotsam which proved to be a bit tricky & in the end just said sod it & posted it!
Re. tweaking: I used a polaizer for the shot & curve adjusted the contrast.
Quack....quack, quack.........qua....ahem. Lovely photo this, Dave.
Dave Carrington: Attention au canard fou! Glad you like it, Ducky smile
I feel the same about Marton Mere, But this is the sort of shot you get and it is well done, but I agree with Eddy abouy William Eggleston and the crop.

I think it would make a great B&W shot.

Psychodudu is Quackers!
Dave Carrington: Howdy, Y'all! See my comment re. crop. I'm going to have a bit of a desaturate thing with it later. As for 'dudu...ah,well...shame.
Have a nice day, now!

Amazing quality of blue in the water, the reeds make a wonderful barrier between this and the very light sky.

On one visit to Martin Mere we overheard two ladies chatting. One suddenly exclaimed to the other, "Look ... ducks!" She sounded so surprised. wink
Dave Carrington: Hi, Ellie. Colours are the result of using a polarizer(new toy!) smile
Hi Dave !
Very nice deep blue in this picture, love the composition too smile
Dave Carrington: Hi, Zebi. Thanks for commenting & I'm Glad you like it!

Fab colours and tones. It makes me think of August rather than February! It's only the bit nearest the bottom edge that could do with going, the other prominent bit at the bottom is fine I think. Lovely composition anyway.
Dave Carrington: Hi, jose. Looks like it's unanimous: I should have cropped the flotsam out of the bottom of the shot!

No, don't crop! The balance is right as it is and like you I love that depth of blue at the bottom. You just need to get that patch tool and dispose of the very bottom bit of flotsam. I like the bit of wood that is above the surface of the water, it echoes the colours and shapes in the rest of the image.
