That's pretty dark, but good photography nonetheless.
Dave Carrington: I guess it is a kind of dark, but I think it conveys what I set out to achieve.

Could not quite take this one in initially, looked like a burns victim and then I twigged, it's my age.

Powerful shot Dave, quite disturbing.
Dave Carrington: Glad you like it: it does look like a burns victim, though! smile
Incredible image - wish it was mine!
Dave Carrington: Thanks: I'm right chuffed! smile
Powerful, disturbing and thought provoking. Excellent.
Dave Carrington: Exactly the mood I tried to evoke! Glad you like it, Rosalyn.

I don't know why but I end up thinking of refugees and children in war torn corners of the world...it certainly evokes emotion.

Technically, rather than emotionally, I think it may have benefitted from a slightly closer crop. I imagine you want it to be both confrontational and reflective so a slightly more 'in your face' framing may have got that across. Alternatively I may have got it all wrong and you weren't looking for that response at all!!

Dave Carrington: Hi, Simon. A welcome & objective comment. The quotation is by Harriet Beecher Stowe, who wrote 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', so I had Slavery in mind when i posted this, so I guess similar universal emotions that are still with us are evoked.

Gosh.

Not meaning to contradict, because I've only just read all the other comments, but I thought the big frame and black background isolated the image even more
Dave Carrington: Hi, Ellie. I guess different people sees things with a personal subjectivity, though the emotional impact seeme to be common to all.

Dave Carrington: Thanks, Captain. The fame... the adulation...oh, the horror, the horror! It's all going to my head...I just can't cope with it! smile
