back to being self, Dave. smile
Dave Carrington: Well, yes, Viktor: I do love this visual jiggery-pokery! smile

I think art is best when it challenges...safe is safe, but it's also sh*t, generally...what say you?
I like a nice bit of choccie box but I enjoy your abstracts Dave
Dave Carrington: Choccie box has a place somewhere, Bill, I'm just not certain where that should be..? smile

I always think of your photographs as colour studies, Dave. Not sure if I agree that art should always challenge - there's a lot of crap art out there which goes by the name of 'challenging' this, that and the other. It can also be lyrical, expressive, melancholy etc but I agree that it shouldn't conform to the norm, and most importantly, should have some kind of concept or philosphy underpinning it.
Ingrid
Dave Carrington: Hi, Ingrid: It's just me on my pontificating soapbox again... I do agree that there's junk out there under fhe banner of 'Challenging' art: I've seen many examples! I'm not sure if art needs a philosophy or a concept to justify it: it should speak for itself. If one needs to explain the idea behind it, I think it's detracting from the point of it. Surely, if it affects you immediately, it's done it's job without some protracted explanatiion of it's intent?
Ah, the immortal "what is art" question. smileI'd say, there is more to art than just a challenge. I pay more attention to the emotional side of it. If I look at a "piece of art" and I say "so what", that piece has little to do with art for me. The other aspect is "I saw this millions of times". That's when the challenge comes handy, in addition to teh emotional part. But we have to remember, all art was challenging once, when it was new. smile
Dave Carrington: Wholly agree. Viktor. Art is about stirring your emotions: it should make you cry, rejoice, & ultimately reinforce the fact that you're a human being!
Seemlessly beauitful!
Dave Carrington: Thank you, Michael! I'm glad you like it smile
A lovely study of colours Dave.
Dave Carrington: Thank you, Bernie! smile
